The Backyard Circus with a Serious Soul

The Mumbai Backyard Ultra is where Bollywood chaos meets barefoot minimalism, and every loop is a love-hate affair with endurance.

Set in the heart of India's most intense city, this is no ordinary ultra. It’s part block party, part philosophical test, and entirely Mumbai.

About

Backyard Ultra

Born in Tennessee and now taking the world (and India) by storm, the Backyard Ultra is the brainchild of the legendary Lazarus Lake β€” the same man behind the Barkley Marathons. The format is brutal in its simplicity and elegant in its design: runners must complete one loop of 6.706 kilometers every hour on the hour. Fail to finish the loop in 60 minutes or less, and you're out. Last person running, wins.

Why 6.706 kilometers?
Because 24 such loops make exactly 100 miles. And yes, it gets as mentally tough as it is physically challenging.

RULES OF BACKYARD

  • Every hour, a new loop starts. All runners must begin at the bell.
  • If you don't start the loop on time, you're out.
  • If you don’t finish the loop in 60 minutes, you're out.
  • You can rest, eat, nap, cry, or do push-ups β€” but only within your remaining time before the next bell.
  • The last runner to complete one more loop than everyone else is declared the winner. Everyone else gets a DNF.
