Bib 811 (Mayuresh Shinde) went out on the timeout; Bib 20 (Mukesh Raut) reached the corral 20 seconds after the start bell; Bib 17 (Vikramjit Singh), Bib 21 (Anirdesh Jai Chandran), Bib 801 (Sadiya) and Bib 815 (Ritesh Bhandari) called it themselves. 15 still on course. Tightest return: Bib 3 (Krish Agarwal), 1 minute 28 seconds to spare — the bell nearly had him.

Sadiya, an Indian ultra team athlete used to 400-metre stadium laps, has tasted the backyard and wants more. Her favourite athlete, Ashwini Ganapathi, who holds the women’s national mark of 28 yards, has been leading this format, and Sadiya says she is sure it is staying with her.
